Wuz Up? Sunday Video: Rabbi David Aaron on Finding God
Nov 17

I was planning to write an article today detailing a time line of when sacred texts were written. One of the reasons I wanted to compile such a list was to give myself a better method of studying the evolution of each religion. I’ve come to realize that such a time line for Jewish and Christian holy books alone would take me several days to compile. I am not abandoning the effort, merely forestalling the publishing of my article.

As I have said before, I feel that the thing that makes sacred texts holy is the inherent wisdom and divinity in the persons who find that texts sacred. The text will illuminate different truths for different individuals, as they each approach the text in a different manner. Some people will come to scripture in judgment and with malice seeded in their hearts; they will look for means to manipulate the text to their own end. Some sacred texts are more susceptible to this manipulation than others. The Christian Bible is one of those texts which lends itself as easily to hate as it does love.

I had recently had the pleasure of watching a lecture by biblical scholar Dr. Bart D. Ehrman concerning the history of how the New Testament text has changed over time. By showing that the text is no longer in its original form, Dr. Ehrman calls into question the extent to which we should take the Bible literally. I thought it would be nice to share a video here with you.

The viewing time is 99 minutes.
